Finished calacatta marble shower by KV Tileworks
i. Our Approach

A tile shower that leaks is not a tile problem, it is a waterproofing problem. We start with Go Board as our primary substrate because of how fast it installs and how well it holds up. Schluter KERDI is also a strong system on the right applications, but it takes more time and carries a higher cost. We use mud pans with Schluter KERDI membrane on top for shower floors when a custom slope is needed, paired with Schluter drains.

Every inside corner and transition gets properly treated before tile goes up. The tile is the last step, not the only one.

ii. What We Build
Schluter KERDI waterproofing on shower walls, KV Tileworks

Custom Shower Pans

Mud pans with proper slope and Schluter KERDI membrane on top, or Go Board foam pans for faster installs. Both are built to last.

Niches & Benches

Built-in niches and benches framed, waterproofed, and tiled as part of the shower build. Not an afterthought.

Floor-to-Ceiling Wall Tile

Full wall coverage, large-format or standard. Layout planned from floor to ceiling before the first tile goes up.

Curbs & Trims

Schluter trim profiles for edges, curbs, and transitions. Mitered corners on natural stone are epoxied for strength and a clean look.

Large-Format Porcelain

Oversized rectified porcelain on shower walls. Minimal grout lines, clean look. Common in Heathrow and Winter Park high-end remodels.

Natural Stone

Marble, travertine, quartzite. Proper substrate and installation for natural stone that will not pop, crack, or leak.

iii. Why Go Board
Go Board waterproof substrate installation for tile shower, KV Tileworks

Go Board: Our Default Waterproofing Substrate

Go Board is a rigid foam panel that is waterproof by design, not just by coating. It installs fast, it does not grow mold, and it has been our go-to on shower walls and wet areas because of how dependable it performs over time.

Schluter KERDI is also a proven waterproofing system and we use it on the right projects. The main trade-off is that KERDI takes more time and costs more. For most residential showers, Go Board is the right call.
